If you're at an antiques or button show, it's important that you make your booth stand out from all the rest. How do you make your table – i.e. your display – seductive enough so that you sell those buttons for the prices you want? Here are some tips on creating an alluring display for your prized buttons.

1)      Flat is bad.Use shelves to display your eager-to-be-sold buttons in an attractive and organized way. People may simply saunter past your table if all your items are laying flat – they will be hard to see and won't really seem like they want to be bought. Simply put: make your buttons easy to see, and when possible, face them vertically in their cases so they don't disappear with the table. Antique buttons are small, so you want to draw as much attention to them as you can. Consider making signs!

2)      Cover your table with a cloth that reaches the ground. Not only is this better looking, but a regular table with nothing hiding whats beneath looks unprofessional and as the antiques show goes on, clutter will start to build and without that table cloth, you will have nothing to hide it.

3)      Bring enough buttons! If you have a lot of empty space on your table, people will be inclined to visit other tables with more stock. If you need to fill in the gaps with attractive decoration, then go ahead. Avoid extra clutter, but don't go for the bare or minimalist look either. People want to have a lot to choose from as they shop and if it doesn't appear that you have much to offer, they won't stop by.

4)      Be available. While there are probably chores to be done and you'll want to straighten up the table, make sure that as people shop around near your table, you are ready and waiting to answer questions. You don't want the buttons to speak for themselves... share their histories and how they were made, this is of course the best way to sell them. But don't be too pushy! That might just scare them away. Note: the way you look is just as important as the way your table works. The more professional and friendly you are, the better.

5)      Trial and error.  If you've followed all these rules and people still pass you by, it's time to do something different. Maybe your color pattern is off-putting, etc. Whatever the case, don't keep doing the same thing!  Do you feel like you're ready to give your vintage buttons the display they deserve? You might have the most impressive collection in the world, but if you don't have a good table for it, then you'll have little luck selling at antiques shows.

Hopefully with these tips, you feel more confident and excited about selling!
